And yet it's pretty horrific in who it celebrates.

Paul Robeson experienced racism in America, and felt that America was bad, and from that he concluded that the opposite of America must be good. The logic is flawed, but very human. How many have been driven from the good by the evil deeds of those who claim to support it?
